New Batman Fan Film

A new Batman fan film called City of Scars hit Dailymotion on Friday. Writer/director Aaron Schoenke has been down this road before, and while this was certainly an improvement over his previous efforts, it's still not very enjoyable. The fact that it was made on a budget of $27,000 is really the most impressive thing about it. Kevin Porter will grow on you as Batman, but Paul Molnar is terrible as the Joker once again. While I do like the concept for the Batman costume design, the strange bat symbol on the chest really detracts from the overall look. As much time as Schoenke has obviously spent reading comics, or at least referencing them for story ideas, he's just another guy with a camera who doesn't realize Batman's cowl is supposed to be equipped with lenses over his eyes. The black makeup look always irritates me, even in the Nolan films.
